Mentored Students Program
As part of our continued service to the community, the San Antonio Choral Society provides a mentoring program for high school and college students in the San Antonio area. Students are offered an opportunity to rehearse and perform standard choral repertoire and major works with our large choral ensemble. We value our mentees’ presence and their enthusiasm for the vocal arts that bring a richness and diversity to our organization. Many of our secondary school students have gone on to schools of higher learning earningmusic scholarships to support their college ambitions. Several of our university students return to the San Antonio environs as educators and clinicians in schools throughout the region. We are always honored to be able to affect the lives of those who have chosen to sing with us. For more information, please email Director@sachoralsociety.org
Mentee Scholarship Awarded
Each year, the Choral Society offers scholarships toward college expenses for which graduating high school seniors may apply. This year, at the Música Sacra de las Américas concert, Mary Henriquez received the award. Congratulations Mary!
In the interest of expanding outreach through community involvement and education, the SACS Board of Directors selected Sara DeTurk to lead the charge as Director of Education. Sara joined SACS in 2004, shortly after moving to Texas and is serving her second non-consecutive term on the Choral Society's Board of Directors. She came to San Antonio to teach intercultural communication at UTSA. Sara has a strong passion for social justice and a deep fascination with cultural differences, and has worked previously as a training consultant, career counselor, and community development worker. Her passion, breadth of experience and dedication to the community and to the organization will ensure program accessibility to all and provide educational opportunities for those who seek them.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship, or any other protected status.
